March 31, 2021 - This webinar introduced the Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary (CN-CGA), Canada’s first Indigenous led Coast Guard Auxiliary. The CN-CGA was incorporated in mid-2018 under the sponsorship of the federal government, for the purpose of providing organized voluntary maritime search and rescue in coastal areas of B.C. Presenters shared how this exciting and new auxiliary began in protecting both mariners and citizens, its intersections with the federal government, and the unique opportunities for building community resilience along B.C.’s coast with the strong and lasting partnerships between maritime First Nations and the Canadian Coast Guard. Speakers: Anthony Moore, Emergency Response Services Manager / Enforcement & Emergency Services Nisg̱a’a Lisims Government, and Conrad James Shaw Cowan CD, BA, MA-(DEM), Executive Director, Coastal Nations Coast Guard Auxiliary (Western) Inc.
